[3] Motherboard

A motherboard (referred to as a mobo) is the main circuit board that holds all of the internal components and allows them to interconnect together to make a computer system. The primary parts of a motherboard to create a working system are:

  • Processor with a fan or cooler (processes the binary instructions)
  • Motherboard (holds all the parts together and allow interconnection)
  • RAM Memory (temporarily store binary data)
  • Hard Drive or Solid State Drive (this will be used to install or boot to the operating system)
  • Graphics card (if pursuing AMD. If the CPU uses Intel and contains integrated then a graphics card will not be needed)
  • Power supply unit (to power the system)
This will allow the PC to function upon correct installation and boot into BIOS. However, there are also additional internal components that can also be added such as:
  • Audio cards
  • Network cards
  • Extra internal hard drives and solid state drives
I will be comparing the latest MSI X570 AMD Gaming Motherboard to an old generic legacy Intel board to compare the differences over the generations of computing, as-well as different sizes (known as form factors)
